Activities and Events


SALT Parties

SALT has four group parties every year - Beginning of the Year, Fall/Christmas, Valentine, End of Year. These parties include the entire SALT membership. They are held at different locations. They can include crafts, outdoor games, swimming or any activity desired by the Party Coordinator.


Field Trips

SALT has a goal of one group field trip per month. Field trips have included Carrigan Farms, Lazy 5 Ranch, Gaston Gazette, Carolina Raptor Center, Discovery Place, Fox's Pizza Den and many more.


SALT Gallery

The SALT Gallery is held every year in April. The Gallery gives SALT students the opportunity to make a display, participate in a talent presentation and eat! Each student can display something about their hobby, academic interest or whatever else strikes their fancy. Talent acts have included dance, singing, playing the piano, reciting poetry and presenting skits.


SALT Yearbook

The SALT Yearbook staff consists of high school students from SALT and an advisor. Each SALT student can have their photograph in the yearbook. Also included are family photos, club photos, and any photos of SALT activities. The yearbooks are presented at the end of year party. Orders are taken early in the year. Yearbook cost is currently $27.00.


Key Club

SALT high school students can participate in the Key Club. The Key Club is a service club sponored by the Kiwanis Clubs International. SALT is one of only two Key Club in the USA for home schoolers. Key Club members meet monthly and participate in a monthly service project. Social activities are also included throughout the year. Click to visit our Key Club's Website


Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society

SALT middle and high school students who meet eligibility requirements may join the NU Mu Chapter of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society. The purpose of Eta Sigma Alpha is to recognize and encourage scholarship among home school students and to provide opportunities for the development of leadership and service. Applications are accepted year-round.


Middle School Group

Middle School Parents have the opportunity to participate in the SALT middle school group. Parents meet at the beginning of the school year to plan yearly activities. Each parent is responsible for one activities. Activities alternate between service projects and social outings.


Elementary School Group

Elementary School Parents will be responsible for planning activities in this group. There should be one activity per month.


Graduation Ceremony

The SALT group offers a graduation ceremony for SALT graduates who have been SALT members for at least 2 years.* The ceremony will include a DVD about each student, a speaker and the presentation of diplomas. The reception is left up to planning by the parents. 

*For the 2011 graduation only, the joining deadline is February 1, 2010. 


SALT YAHOO Group

When someone joins SALT they receive an invitation to join the SALT Yahoo Group. All SALT members can send and receive emails through the YAHOO group. The YAHOO group emails are the best source for information about activities and opportunities within SALT and throughout the area.
